Our primary mission is to be a source of academic support for students. The Science Advising Services Office assists science majors in the following ways:

  • New transfer student advising
  • Freshman advising for students planning a career in the health professions
  • Advising for course selection and degree completion, advising for students encountering academic difficulty
  • Referrals for helpful on-campus support services

Earn a Graduate Degree in Plant Biology

Professor Xing-Hai Zhang, Ph.D., is seeking enterprising students to join his plant genetics and biotechnology lab. "Our research includes using CRISPR and other technologies for targeted genetic and metabolic engineering to generate knowledge and value-added plants that are better equipped to deal with various environmental stresses." Jorge Torres is a pre-medical track student working towards a B.S. in Biological Sciences, and is a member of the Tiny Earth Lab, researching antibiotic producing bacteria found in the soil. He is also a member of the Soar-in-4 program. Read more.

2020 Soar-in-4 Student Scholars

Congratulations to our 2020 Soar-in-4 Scholars cohort of high achieving undergraduate students. The college has 27 students in the 2020 cohort, pursuing a range of disciplines, from psychology, biological sciences, neuroscience and behavior, chemistry, health sciences, and more. Vivian MerkVivian Merk, Ph.D., Receives DoD Grant

Vivian Merk, Ph.D. is awarded the FY 2021 Department of Defense (DoD) Research and Education Program for Historically Black Colleges and Universities and Minority-Serving Institutions (HBCU/MI) Equipment/Instrumentation grant. The title of the award is Acquisition of a Transmission Electron Microscope to Enhance Multidisciplinary Research and STEM Education.
