EKG (12 lead) Technician Course


Course Description:
The EKG Technician course at Florida Atlantic University is a comprehensive 30 hour course prepares students to function as EKG and Monitor technicians. Upon successful completion of this course a certificate of completion will be presented to the student. No previous healthcare experience is needed for this course.

* Optional clinical portion to be held at Boca Raton Regional Hospital (clinical hours TBA).

Learning Objectives:
At the completion of this course the participant will be able to:

  1. Describe the normal cardiac anatomy and physiology and normal electrical conduction through the heart.
  2. Identify and relate waveforms to the cardiac cycle.
  3. Understand the different lead placements and purpose of each placement.
  4. Utilize a systematic process when approaching the interpretation of the ECG.
  5. Identify normal and abnormal components on ECG.
  6. Recognize sinus, atrial, junctional and ventricular dysrhythmia on ECG and relate cause, significance, symptoms and treatment.
  7. Recognize how the 12 lead ECG relates to the areas of the heart.
  8. Recognize ischemic, injury, and infarction on the 12 lead ECG.
