Pradip Maity earned his PhD in synthetic organic chemistry in summer 2011, under the direction of Dr. Lepore. He has accepted a postdoctoral position in Professor Tambar's research group at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. Congratulations, Dr. Maity!
Songye Li earned her PhD in synthetic organic chemistry in summer 2011, under the direction of Dr. Lepore. She has accepted a postdoctoral position in Professor Huang's research group at Yale University. Congratulations, Dr. Li!

Pradip Maity, a senior doctoral student in Dr. Lepore's group, published his research in Angewandte Chemie International Edition (ACIE).
The title of their publication is Catalytic Synthesis of Nonracemic Azaproline Derivatives by Cyclization of beta-Alkynyl Hydrazines under Kinetic Resolution Conditions. As ACIE is considered by many to be the pinnacle journal of Chemistry, this paper will bring increased visibility to the Lepore Group and FAU Chemistry.

Dean Perry presented the 2011 FAU College of Science Associate Professor "Researcher of the Year" Award to Dr. Lepore at the College of Science's annual awards ceremony. Congratulations, Dr. Lepore!

Dr. Lepore was named the 2011 Associate Professor "Researcher of the Year" for FAU's College of Science! He has been invited by Dean Perry to present his research at the College of Science Research Day in April. Congratulations, Dr. Lepore!

Deboprosad ("Debo") Mondal earned his PhD in synthetic organic chemistry in fall 2010, under the direction of Dr. Lepore. He has accepted a postdoctoral position in Professor William Roush's research group at Scripps Florida. Congratulations, Dr. Mondal!

Dr. Lepore's doctoral student Songye Li (shown pictured with Dr. Louda) won the 2010 FAU Department of Chemistry Summer Research Competition for her work in developing new reagents for applications in medical imaging. Congratulations Songye!

Nina Bionda, Ph.D. Student, was awarded a scholarship to attend the 21st American Peptide Symposium Bloomington, IN in June 2009.
Dr. Narayanan visited the University of Tokushima, Japan to explore collaborations and scientists/faculty exchange.
He gave lectures to the Engineering and Health Sciences faculty and students on Bioinformatics. President of the University Dr. Toshihiro Aono, MD., Ph.D.
(left) met with Dr. Narayanan. Also present at the meeting were senior Administration officials from the University.

The Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry, Charles E. Schmidt College of Science at FAU is pleased to welcome our new faculty Dr. Lyndon West.
Welcome, Dr. Lyndon West!
-Dr. West joins us from the University of Georgia. He earned his Ph.D. at Victoria University of Wellington,
New Zealand. His research Interests are Discovery of pharmacologically-active metabolites from marine invertebrates, anti-cancer and anti-microbial agents, use of stem cells in developing new drugs for cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases and development of
novel approaches for the separation and characterization of marine natural products to accelerate the discovery of drug leads.
The Department is pleased to welcome two new
Postdoctoral Fellows:
Drs. Gupta Prasoon & Upasana Gupta (Host: Dr. L. West).
The Department welcomes Lissette Lozano-Lewis to the Ph.D. Program:
Lissette is from Peru, and she obtained her M.S. at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
The Department congratulates Maria Rodriguez, graduate student (Dr. Cudic's laboratory) for receiving the L.A.C.C.E.I. Scholarship
(Latin American and Caribbean Consortium of Engineering Institutions).
