2007 National Wildlife Refuge System Centennial Scholarship Program Announced The Walt Disney Company, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation are supporting the 2007 National Wildlife Refuge System (NWRS) Centennial Scholarship Program. The NWRS Centennial Scholarship Program seeks to support students whose research will contribute toward improved management and understanding of the diverse fish, wildlife and plant resources found on National Wildlife Refuges.

Under this competitive scholarship program, a minimum of ten scholarships will be awarded to support students' research expenses, tuition, fees, books, and room and board. Undergraduate, Master's, and Juris Doctorate students are eligible to receive a one-time award of $5,000; PhD and DVM students are eligible to receive a one-time award of $15,000. Courtenay Graduate Scholarships in Conservation

It is very important to Dr. Courtenay the recipients know that this scholarship is in his honor and that he is NOT the donor to it.

The awarding of the scholarship will be at the discretion of the Department of Biological Sciences with the following criteria:

  1. The recipient must be a graduate student in conservation biology
  2. The award is based on academic merit.

Capt. Al Nathan Memorial Scholarship

This a $1000/ year scholarship, awarded to a graduate student studying marine biology.  Student must write to donor (The palm Beach County Fishing Foundation) informing them of his/her research and field of interest after graduate school.

Boca Raton Orchid Society Endowed Scholarship

Established in 1995 by the Boca Raton Orchid Society.  This scholarship provides awards to botany majors and is based on academic ability.

Vincent Saurino Fellowship for Grad Students in Biological Science

This fellowship was created in 2000 by Richard Huisking, in memory of Dr. Saurino, a founding faculty member in the Biological Sciences.  It is awarded to outstanding graduate students in the biological sciences.

Dr. G. Alex and Carla Marsh Scholarship Fund

Two scholarships are awarded annually, one in Marine Biology & Ecology programs within the department of Biological Sciences, with the following criteria:

  1. Verifiable financial need
  2. 3.0 GPA or above
  3. Graduate Student pursuing a Masters of Ph.D.
  4. Florida Resident
  5. full or part-time majoring in Marine Biology or Ecology.

Application for 2007 Fall of Scholarships

The Biology Department is pleased to announce that nominations are now being accepted for Scholarships for the Fall 2007. Please visit the Biology website for an up to date list of available scholarships (http://www.science.fau.edu/biology). Applicants should reply with a letter of interest, an up-to-date transcript and one letter of recommendation from a faculty member.

Students need submit only one application for consideration of the other available scholarships. Unsuccessful applicants applying for a particular scholarship award will automatically be considered for all other awards for which the applicant may be qualified.

NON FAU SCHOLARSHIPS

  1. Junior Woman’s Club of Boca Raton Scholarship Award – The scholarship is offered to pay tuition for the 2006-2007 academic year to qualifying FAU female applicants who meet the scholarship requirements.  Students must be female entering her junior or senior year or be a graduate student, have a minimum of 3.0 GPA, be enrolled as a U.S. citizen, a resident of Boca Raton, Delray Beach or Deerfield Beach, FL, and NOT be a member of the Junior Woman’s Club or a direct or indirect relative of any of its members.  All Scholarship applications must include a copy of transcripts and an essay up to 300 words on the following topic:  Why is volunteering important?  How do you fit it into your busy schedule (or plan to do so)?  How do we instill the desire to volunteer in others?
