Technical position for Florida Bay research with SFWMD

TECHNICAL SUPPORT FOR FLORIDA BAY AND SOUTHERN EVERGLADES RESTORATION SOUTH FLORIDA WATER MANAGEMENT DISTRICT (SFWMD)

R.C.T. Engineering, Inc., a consulting engineering firm based in West Palm Beach, Florida is seeking the services of a technical scientist/analyst to provide the SFWMD with Consultant assistance in the collection and analysis of samples of Florida Bay and Everglades water, soil, and vegetation in the District’s Coastal Sciences Laboratory for up to 31 months. This technical position supports ongoing research and monitoring of the ecological connections of the Everglades and Florida Bay. The technician will be required to perform multiple functions in the analytical laboratory including quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) as well as field sampling, experimentation, and data organization and analysis. Responsibilities will include participation in overnight field trips to Florida Bay; operation and maintenance of field equipment including small boats; chemical analysis (C, N and P) of water, sediment and plant samples; operation and maintenance of a variety of analytical instruments; adhering to standard operating procedures and District QA/QC protocols; and data reporting and analysis. This position requires a working knowledge of aquatic or wetland sampling techniques and laboratory procedures for sample processing and chemical analysis specific to environmental monitoring. In addition, the physical demands of the position require heavy lifting, exposure to harsh field conditions, snorkeling skills, and use of numerous chemical compounds. Qualified candidates must have: 1) Associate’s Degree in a natural science related field (B.S. in estuarine or wetland ecology or related field preferred); 2) two (2) to seven (7) years experience; 3) valid State of Florida Driver’s License.
